Joseph A. Lawrence
Joe Lawrence was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of LCI as it grew its revenue from $100 million to $2.4 billion, culminating in its $4 billion sale to Qwest Communications. At the time of the sale, LCI generated the largest investment gain in Warburg Pincus’ 30 year history. Following the merger, Mr. Lawrence served as Chief Operating Officer of Qwest. Prior to joining LCI, he was Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration for MCI Communications with senior financial, sales, service, general management, and information systems responsibilities. Joe has served on the board of directors of 360 Networks, Journal Register, Blue Ridge Networks, and Trivergent Communications as well as an advisor to KKR and Warburg Pincus.
Gary D. Nusbaum
Gary Nusbaum has spent more than 20 years in the private equity and asset management businesses, and has been a board member of more than 25 public and private companies.
From 1989-2002, Mr. Nusbaum was at Warburg Pincus, where he was a Managing Director, responsible for more than 20 investments totaling $3.5 billion, including companies in the media, telecommunications, retail, healthcare, environmental, and logistics sectors. He worked in the firm’s New York and Hong Kong offices, and opened and ran the firm’s São Paulo office and Latin America practice. His portfolio included start-ups, growth capital, and leveraged buyouts. From 2002-2005, Mr. Nusbaum was a Managing Director at Aetos Capital, a $5 billion asset management firm. Mr. Nusbaum was the firm’s Chief Financial Officer and headed its private equity business, which managed more than $250 million invested in 40 funds and direct investments. Mr. Nusbaum was a member of the investment committee of the firm’s Japan-focused real estate fund, Aetos Capital Asia. From 2006-2010, Mr. Nusbaum was a Managing Director at Palladium Equity, a private equity firm with $1 billion under management. At Palladium, Mr. Nusbaum was a member of the firm’s investment committee, and was responsible for the firm’s investments in the media, consumer, and retail sectors, as well as its Latin America practice.
Mr. Nusbaum is President of FLE Associates, which provides financial and strategic advice to companies across a diverse range of industries. Representative clients and board memberships include: a Canadian telecommunications services provider; a Brazilian consumer and technology company; a U.S. construction management company; an emerging markets-focused recruiter; a global specialized information services firm; and a Latin America-focused private equity firm. In addition, Mr. Nusbaum is chairman of the Nominating and Governance Committee of Response Genetics, Inc. (NASDAQ: RGDX), a healthcare company focused on personalized medicine.
Mr. Nusbaum received his Bachelor of Science in Economics, summa cum laude, and Master of Business Administration degrees from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Douglas Sharps
Doug served as Executive Vice President, Business and Organizational Development, of Trover Solutions, Inc. He began his career with Trover in 1990 as General Counsel, adding the responsibilities of Chief Financial Officer to his General Counsel role in 1994. In 1997, Doug was named Executive Vice President, overseeing management of Trover’s corporate law, human resources, finance, accounting, systems and facilities teams. In 2009, Sharps was named leader of Trover’s newly configured Business and Organizational Development group. His responsibilities in this new role include management of legal, human resources and talent development as well as business development, compliance and internal audit. Prior to his career with Trover, Sharps was with the Louisville law firm of Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs. He received an A.B from Washington University, and an M.A. from Tufts.
